Who are the Enterprise Catalysts? Are you one?

Posted in Enterprise Education, The Enterprise Catalysts by David Johnson on the February 25th, 2010

We here so much about the importance of enterprise, and how we in the UK support it is going to be one of the issues central to the election debate. But who are the real catalysts of enterprise?

  • Is it the government - they do play a role in facilitating enterprise? In reality it can’t be the government, but it could be certain members of the government if they believe and support enterprise passionately and skilfully. Who could it be and why?
  • Is it the education system - how much impact can education have? Again it is probably focused upon specific teachers, managers and students - all of who have a massive role to play - but only certain ones are liable to be the real catalysts of enterprise. Who could it be and why?
  • Is it the people who decide to become self-employed and create their own businesses - are they the real drivers of enterprise? Who are the people whose enterprising mind and behaviour set drives the UK’s economy?
  • What about the public sector - Business Links, RDA’s, Local Authorities, Enterprise Agencies etc - who is it that makes a difference?

The Enterprise Catalyst itself plays a part, but lets find out who the real catalysts of enterprise are and accolade their contribution and success!!!

We can’t live without Positive Psychology

Posted in Psychology of business, Enterprise Education by David Johnson on the February 24th, 2010

There have been a few articles rccently talking about the benefits and potential dangers of embracing positive psychology. Most recently this was raised in the Independent.

It begs another question for me - can entrepreneurs be really happy - there is a massive claim that we can, but with such a difficult job is it possible?

We have started to use the Enterprise Catalyst as a measure of well-being and the results are interesting if we accept that people’s sense of well-being relates to their contribution to society - both causal and as a result.

Attractiveness and entrepreneurship

Posted in Psychology of business by David Johnson on the February 9th, 2010

Psychologists have always had an interest in attractiveness and its imapct upon a whole range of issues - usually career advancement. However I recently read a piece on the type of car males and female drive and their prerceived attractiveness - It got me thinking about the influence of attractiveness upon success in business. Is there anything to comment upon that would be a useful addition to debate?
